The goal of Third Kidney, Inc. is to develop alternatives to dialysis therapy for patients with advanced stages of renal disease.
Dialysis is burdensome for the patient often requiring 15-20 hours per week. Additionally, dialysis is expensive and labor intensive, costing up to $60,000 per year for clinic treatment. The ideal therapy would allow a patient to substitute, hour for hour, time on dialysis for time using alternative therapy. There are many products that can achieve this goal currently in development. To accomplish this goal, Third Kidney, Inc. will trial specially built medical saunas. While the concept has been around for hundreds, if not thousands of years, nothing has been developed that is reliable, safe, and effective enough to be used in a high throughput medical setting. Additionally, at present, saunas are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of advanced stages of kidney disease nor any other human disease. After determining the utility of saunas in kidney disease, Third Kidney, Inc. will seek to expand the indications for which saunas might be useful.
Currently we are working on a prototype and raising money to conduct a pilot and feasibility trial. Please contact us if you have any questions or are interested in funding or otherwise participating in our research.
